Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What are dental implants? A. Dental implants are small titanium posts that replace missing tooth roots. They provide a strong, long-lasting foundation for replacement teeth such as crowns, bridges, or dentures, restoring both function and appearance.

Q. What are the benefits of dental implants? A. - They look, feel, and function like natural teeth - Help prevent bone loss in the jaw - Improve speech and comfort compared to dentures - Restore confidence and a natural smile - Long-lasting solution with proper care

Q. Who is suitable for dental implants? A. Most adults with good oral and general health are suitable candidates. You’ll need healthy gums and enough bone to support the implant. Your dentist will carry out a full assessment to check if implants are right for you.

Q. What is the dental implant process like? A. The process typically involves several stages: Consultation & assessment – we take X-rays or scans to and discuss your treatment. You will be able to ask any questions about your care at this point and throughout the treatment. Dr Miah will provide you with a clear quote and treatment plan. Implant placement – a small titanium post is placed into the jawbone under local anaesthetic. Healing period – the bone fuses with the implant (usually over a few months). Final restoration – a custom-made crown, bridge or denture is fitted on top for a natural look.

Q. Is getting a dental implant painful? A. Most patients describe the procedure as more comfortable than expected. It’s carried out under local anaesthetic, and we’ll make sure you’re at ease throughout. Some mild soreness or swelling is normal afterwards but usually settles quickly.

Q. How long do dental implants last? A. With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, implants can last many years, often a lifetime. The attached crown or bridge may need replacement after 10–15 years due to normal wear.

Q. How do I look after dental implants? A. Care for implants just like natural teeth: Brush twice a day Clean between teeth daily Attend regular dental and hygiene appointments Avoid smoking, which can affect healing and longevity

Q. Are dental implants expensive? A. The cost depends on how many teeth are being replaced and your individual treatment plan. While implants are an investment, they offer a long-term and natural-looking solution compared to alternatives like dentures or bridges. We’ll provide a full cost breakdown at your consultation.

Q. How long does the whole treatment take? A. From start to finish, implant treatment usually takes between 3 to 6 months, depending on healing times and whether any additional procedures (like bone grafting) are needed.

Q. Can I have implants if I already wear dentures? A. Yes. Implants can be used to stabilise and support dentures, preventing slipping or discomfort. This is a popular option for patients who want a more secure, confident fit.
